Wire rope wear is a common hazard of wire rope and an important cause of wire rope failure. Because the wire rope touches other objects and has relative movement during operation, it conflicts. Under the mechanical, physical and chemical effects, the appearance of wire rope is also constantly worn. Wire wear is generally divided into external wear, internal wear and deformation wear.

1. External wear (pure mechanical wear). During the use of wire rope, the wire is worn due to touching the surface of pulleys, drums, hooks, rocks on the ground and other objects. After external wear, the rope diameter becomes thinner, and the thin steel wire on the outer surface is smoothed.

2. Internal wear. During the seed process, when the wire rope passes through the reel or pulley, all the loads borne by the wire rope are pressed on one side of the wire rope, and the radius of curvature of each thin wire cannot be exactly the same. Because of the twists and turns of the wire, the steel wire in the strand slips. At this time, the touch stress between the strands increases, causing the steel wire between adjacent strands to have some deep indentation. When the wire is repeatedly stretched and flexed, In the deep recesses, stress concentration occurs and they are broken, forming internal wear. The internal worn steel wire fracture is tooth shaped, and the external surface is smooth and concave.
